Sharing Candidates with External Hiring Managers
When you want a hiring manager, executive, or external panelist to review a Stori candidate, you don't need to invite them to your account. Stori generates a public link to the candidate's profile that anyone can open — with you in control of what's visible.
How Sharing Works
Every Stori candidate has a public profile URL of the form:
onestori.com/can/[firstname-lastname]/[8-character-code]
Anyone with that link can open it without logging in. The candidate themselves controls visibility — they decide whether their profile, interview, and traits are public, password-gated, or hidden entirely.
Logged-in Stori clients who open the same URL are automatically redirected to an authenticated view that shows everything regardless of the candidate's public visibility settings, since you're already a known reviewer.
What the Recipient Sees
The public page is a polished, hiring-manager-optimized view with three tabs:
- Profile — resume, contact info, work history, education, links.
- Stori Interview — full video interview with timestamped transcript.
- Traits Assessment — trait scores with the visual chart.
Each tab can be toggled on or off independently by the candidate. If the recipient clicks a disabled tab, they see a "Section Not Available" message rather than a blank page. The layout is the same as the internal Stori view — fast to scan, easy to share.
The Three Visibility Toggles
Candidates control three independent toggles in their settings:
- Can view profile — the resume tab.
- Can view interview — the video and transcript.
- Can view traits — the assessment scores.
These toggles apply globally to that candidate's public link. If a candidate has interview viewing disabled, every public viewer sees the disabled state — there's no per-share override. (Authenticated Stori clients still see everything.)
If a candidate seems hesitant about being shared externally, point them to their visibility settings. Many candidates don't realize they can hide their public profile while still letting your hiring team see everything.
Access Modes (Set by the Candidate)
Candidates can set their public link's access mode in three ways:
- Anyone with link — no auth, just open and view.
- Password required — viewer enters a password the candidate has shared separately.
- Block all access — the link returns a 403 to the public; only authenticated Stori reviewers can still see the profile.
Candidates can also generate an "Always Access" variant of their link that bypasses the password gate. Useful when they want to give a specific recruiter a low-friction link without exposing the password version.
Subscription Gating
Candidates need an active Outreach subscription (or a sponsored My Stori grant that has not yet expired) for their public link to work. If their subscription lapses, the public link returns 403 — but Stori clients can still view the profile through the authenticated route.
The 'Explore Stori' CTA
The public page shows an "Explore Stori" button in the top-right corner. It links to the company-side overview at /companies — useful for hiring managers who haven't seen Stori before and want to know what they're looking at.
The same CTA appears in the "Section Not Available" modal when a recipient clicks a tab the candidate has disabled.
