Reviewing Candidates

Evaluate candidates with AI interview playback, searchable transcripts, trait assessment scores, benchmark match percentages, and team collaboration tools.

The Candidate List

When you open a job, you will see all candidates for that role. The candidate list shows key information at a glance:

  • Name and profile photo — Basic candidate identification
  • Current job title and company — Their most recent professional role
  • Interview status — Whether they have completed the AI interview
  • Trait assessment status — Whether they have completed the trait assessment
  • Benchmark match score — How closely they match your employee benchmark (if configured)
  • Pipeline stage — Which stage they are in (Qualified, Liked, Invite, Final)

You can view candidates in two layouts: a table view for quick scanning, or a Kanban board view to visualize your pipeline stages.

Use the Kanban board view when you want to focus on pipeline management. Use the table view when you want to compare multiple candidates or sort by specific criteria.

Viewing a Candidate Profile

Click on any candidate to open their full profile. The candidate profile page brings together everything you need to evaluate them:

  • Overview — AI-generated candidate summary highlighting key insights, strengths, and potential concerns. This summary is generated after the candidate completes their interview.
  • AI Interview — Full video playback and searchable transcript of their AI interview responses. Each question and answer is displayed separately for easy navigation.
  • Trait Assessment — Visual chart showing their scores across key professional traits. Scores are displayed as a radar chart for easy interpretation.
  • Benchmark Match — If you have set up employee benchmarking for this role, you will see a match percentage showing how closely this candidate aligns with your top performers' trait profile.
  • Professional Background — Resume details, work history, education, and skills from their profile.
  • Team Notes — Notes and ratings left by your team members about this candidate.

Reviewing the AI Interview

The AI interview section is one of the most valuable evaluation tools in Stori. Here is what you get:

Video Playback

Watch the candidate's recorded video responses to each interview question. You can see their body language, communication style, and how they think on their feet. Video can be played at normal speed, or scrubbed through to specific sections.

Searchable Transcript

Every response is transcribed using AI. The full-text transcript is searchable, so you can quickly find when a candidate mentioned a specific skill, company, technology, or topic. Click on any part of the transcript to jump to that moment in the video.

AI-Generated Insights

Stori's AI analyzes the interview and generates a summary of the candidate's key strengths, potential areas of concern, communication style, and notable responses. This helps you quickly understand a candidate without watching the entire interview.

Even when the AI summary is helpful, watching at least portions of the video gives you insights that text alone cannot capture — tone, enthusiasm, confidence, and interpersonal warmth all come through on video.

Understanding Trait Scores

The trait assessment measures key professional traits using a scientifically-validated assessment. Each trait is scored and displayed as a visual chart, making it easy to see a candidate's profile at a glance.

Trait scores are most useful when compared — either against other candidates for the same role, or against your employee benchmark. A single trait score in isolation has limited meaning, but patterns across traits reveal important information about work style, preferences, and fit.

Trait scores measure tendencies and preferences, not ability. A score is not "good" or "bad" — it depends on the role and team. Use traits as one input alongside skills, experience, and interview performance.

Benchmark Match Scores

If you have set up employee benchmarking for a role, each candidate who completes the trait assessment receives a benchmark match percentage. This score indicates how closely the candidate's trait profile aligns with the trait patterns of your top performers in that role.

  • High match (80%+) — The candidate's trait profile resembles that of your top performers. This indicates similarity, not a prediction — explore how their specific experience and context compare.
  • Moderate match (50-79%) — Some alignment with your top performers. Worth reviewing to understand where they differ.
  • Lower match (below 50%) — Significant differences from your top performers' profile. This does not mean they would be a bad hire — they may bring complementary strengths.

A candidate with a lower match score is not necessarily worse. They might bring diversity of thought and complementary strengths that your team is currently missing. Use match scores to prioritize candidates for review, not as the only deciding factor.

Managing the Pipeline

Move candidates through your pipeline as you evaluate them. The four stages help your team stay aligned on where each candidate stands:

1.

Qualified (initial stage)

All new candidates start here — whether they came from sourcing, applied directly, or completed an AI interview via invitation.

2.

Liked

After reviewing a candidate's interview, traits, and profile, move them to Liked if you are interested in learning more.

3.

Invite

Move candidates here when you want to invite them to a live interview or next step in your process.

4.

Final

Your final shortlist. These are candidates you are seriously considering for an offer.

You can move candidates between stages by dragging their card on the Kanban board, or by changing the stage dropdown on their profile page. All team members can see pipeline movements in real time.

Notes and Team Ratings

Collaboration is key to good hiring decisions. Stori provides tools for your team to share feedback on candidates:

  • Notes — Any team member can leave notes on a candidate's profile. Notes are visible to all team members and are timestamped with the author's name. Use notes to capture observations, questions, or feedback from live interviews.
  • Ratings — Team members can rate candidates. Ratings help you quickly see which candidates have the strongest support across your team.

Encourage every team member who reviews a candidate to leave a note, even if it is brief. Having multiple perspectives documented helps avoid bias and makes hiring decisions more defensible.

Tips for Effective Evaluation

To get the most out of Stori's evaluation tools, follow these best practices:

  • Review the AI summary first — Get a quick overview before diving into the full interview video.
  • Watch at least part of the video — Video reveals communication skills, enthusiasm, and personality that transcripts miss.
  • Use transcript search — Search for specific skills, technologies, or experiences to quickly find relevant responses.
  • Compare trait scores against benchmark — If you have benchmarked your team, use the match score to prioritize which candidates to review in depth.
  • Leave notes for your team — Document your impressions so the whole team can contribute to the decision.
  • Use pipeline stages consistently — Agree with your team on what each stage means so everyone is aligned.
  • Do not rely on a single signal — The best evaluations combine interview performance, trait scores, benchmark match, skills, and experience.
