How to Set Up Your Profile
Your Stori profile is your professional identity. Learn how to build a compelling profile using resume upload, AI tools, voice editing, and more.
Profile Sections
Your Stori profile is organized into several sections. Completing all sections gives employers the most comprehensive view of who you are:
- Headline & Summary — A short tagline and a paragraph about your professional identity. This is the first thing employers see.
- Work Experience — Your employment history with titles, companies, dates, and descriptions of responsibilities and achievements.
- Education — Degrees, certifications, institutions, and graduation dates.
- Skills — Technical and soft skills relevant to your target roles.
- Profile Photo — A professional headshot. Profiles with photos are viewed significantly more often.
- Video Intro — A short Personal Intro video recorded through the interview section. This can be embedded in outreach emails and your PDF export.
- Job Preferences — Desired title, location, salary expectations, and work arrangement (remote/hybrid/on-site). Also used by the Chrome extension to improve autofill accuracy.
Resume Upload & AI Extraction
The fastest way to populate your profile is to upload your existing resume. Stori supports PDF and Word (.docx) formats.
Navigate to your profile
Go to your profile page and look for the resume upload option, or use the upload prompt during initial account setup.
Upload your file
Drag and drop your resume file, or click to browse. Stori accepts PDF and Word documents.
AI extraction
Stori's AI will automatically parse your resume and extract work history, education, skills, contact information, and summary text. This typically takes just a few seconds.
Review and refine
After extraction, review each section to verify accuracy. You may want to expand on bullet points, add missing roles, or update wording. Use the AI writing assistant to help polish descriptions.
You can re-upload a newer resume at any time. The AI will re-extract information and update your profile accordingly.
Voice-to-Edit
Stori includes a voice-to-edit feature that lets you update your profile by speaking instead of typing. This is especially useful for writing natural-sounding descriptions and summaries.
Activate voice editing
Click the microphone icon on any editable text field in your profile.
Speak your changes
Describe what you want to add or change. For example: "Add that I led a team of 12 engineers and delivered the project two weeks ahead of schedule."
Review the result
Stori will transcribe and intelligently apply your spoken input to the relevant field. Review the changes and make any final adjustments.
Voice-to-edit works best in a quiet environment. Speak clearly and naturally, as if you were describing your experience to a colleague.
AI Writing Assistance
Stori's AI writing assistant helps you craft professional, compelling descriptions for every section of your profile. You can use it to:
- Improve existing text — Select text and ask the AI to make it more concise, professional, or impactful
- Generate descriptions — Provide a few keywords or bullet points and let the AI draft a full description
- Write your headline — Get suggestions for a compelling professional headline based on your experience
- Polish your summary — Turn rough notes into a polished professional summary
AI-generated text is a starting point. Always review and personalize the output to make sure it accurately represents your experience and voice.
Video Intro
Your video intro is a short Personal Intro recorded through the Stori Interview section. Once recorded, it appears on your profile and can be embedded in outreach emails and your exported PDF resume.
To record your video intro, go to the Interview section and select Personal Intro. You will have teleprompter support to help you stay on track. See the Stori Interview page for detailed instructions.
Employers consistently report that candidates with video intros stand out. Even a brief 30-second video makes a significant difference.
Profile Visibility Settings
You have full control over who can see your profile. Choose from three visibility options:
- Public — Your profile is visible to all employers and recruiters on the platform. Maximum exposure for your job search.
- Hidden from Current Employer — Your profile is visible to all employers except your current company. Use this if you are job searching discreetly while still employed.
- Private — Your profile is not visible to any employers unless you explicitly share a link. Use this if you are not actively looking but want to keep your profile ready.
You can change your visibility at any time from your profile settings. The change takes effect immediately.
Even on "Private," anyone you share your direct profile link with can view your profile. Be mindful of who you share your link with.
Reader View
Reader view is a toggle that lets you preview how your profile appears to employers and other viewers. Use it to:
- See exactly what employers see when they visit your profile
- Check that all sections are complete and well-formatted
- Verify that your video intro, photo, and headline display correctly
- Review your profile before sharing it or setting it to Public
Toggle reader view on and off at any time from your profile page. It is a quick way to quality-check your profile before a big outreach campaign.
PDF Resume Export
Stori can generate a professional PDF resume from your profile data. The exported PDF can optionally include an embedded link to your video intro, giving recipients a richer experience than a traditional resume.
Go to your profile
Navigate to your profile page.
Click Export / Download PDF
Look for the export or download option on your profile page.
Choose options
Select whether to include the video intro embed link in your PDF.
Download
Your PDF will be generated and downloaded. You can attach it to job applications, send it via email, or share it however you like.
The video-embedded PDF includes a QR code or link that recipients can click to watch your Personal Intro video. This makes your resume stand out even when submitted through traditional channels.
