Senior Product Designer

Apply for this position

$180,000 – $215,000 a year, plus equity. Three days a week in the Los Angeles office.

Why now

The product grew from one scheduling tool to four products in eighteen months, each designed by the engineers who built it. Customers use all four in a day and meet four sets of patterns. This role makes them one product before the fifth ships in the spring.

What you will be accountable for

  • 30 days: an audit of the four products, the twenty patterns that differ most ranked by how often customers meet them.
  • 90 days: the scheduling flow redesigned and shipped on shared components, with time to book a final round measured before and after.
  • 6 months: a design system engineers use without asking, covering 80% of screens in the two largest products.
  • 12 months: all four products on the system, and the fifth designed on it from its first screen.

What makes this role demanding

There are 34 engineers and, until you join, two designers. Most screens will be built with no designer in the room, so the work has to go from designing every screen to giving engineers patterns they can build from alone. Proposals are written, and engineers will challenge them.

The team you will join

You will be one of three designers, with 34 engineers and five product managers. The role reports to the VP of Product. You will work most with the engineering leads for scheduling and analytics. The team writes before it meets: a proposal is two pages, read in silence, then argued.

Who gets this role

A design system built or rebuilt at a software company of 50 to 500 people, in daily use by engineers you did not sit beside. A complex desktop workflow, such as scheduling or billing, taken from research to shipped with a measured result. Advanced Figma, including variables. Between finalists it comes down to a proposal you wrote, and how engineers changed it.

The three candidates we end up interviewing will have demonstrated this, so if that is not you, this role may not be the best match.

Where it leads

The last senior designer here now leads design for the analytics product. The next step from this role is leading design for one of the five.
